Some Benefits of Working with a Personal Trainer

Met with my trainer again today.  The really good thing about being coached by a professional is that he knows precisely how to strengthen targeted muscles despite limitations imposed by my shoulder arthritis and old injuries.  He is working with me gently but aggressively and is very encouraging.  He is introducing me to exercises that I was previously unaware of .  I feel confident that we are going to make some fast progress.

After today’s session, he presented me with some printouts of my overall starting statistics and goal statistics, along with a chart of today’s workout and recommendations for my cardiorespiratory workout and daily calorie recommendation.  We will also be talking about nutrition and supplementation.

First Meeting With A Personal Trainer

Met with my new personal trainer today.  We talked about my fitness goals.  I explained that as I age I am becoming aware that I can’t just “wing it” anymore.  Now, when I don’t exercise regularly, it shows up right away.  I have a lot of things I want to do.  Many of them concurrently.  For this I need to be at my peak, physically and mentally.  I told him that I wanted to lose about 15 lbs to get back to my preferred weight.  He took measurements of my body fat which revealed my body fat to be at 42.6%!  Aaak!  We are going to work it down to 25%.  I want to strengthen my back muscles, my abs, and my arms.  I want my muscles to feel energized – not sluggish, so that I can power through my days and live my life with exuberance and vitality.  I suppose I should take a “before” picture and post it here but I’ll have to think about that one.  Maybe not.  Hmm.

Because of my limited availability, we are going to schedule 50 minute trainings, twice a week, for 6 months.  Can I hit my weight and body fat targets in six months?   Stay tuned…
